In February and March 2026, two English-language train-the-trainer workshops on research data management were held as a collaborative initiative by trainers from northern Germany (Bremen, Hamburg, Mecklenburg-Western Pomerania, Lower Saxony, and Schleswig-Holstein).

Together, they tested proven concepts and approaches, developed new ideas, and strengthened their overall competencies to design effective training sessions on research data management—not only in terms of content but also with regard to interactive learning methods.

In organizing the workshops, the focus was less on teaching participants the basics of RDM and more on teaching them how to convey these concepts using appropriate methods. From the presenters’ perspective, this approach worked well, and experiences and ideas for teaching were exchanged during extensive reflection and discussion sessions.

Further Train-the-Trainer workshops on RDM for the northern German states are planned for the coming months and quarters (in German and English). We will provide updates on this via our usual channels. If you are interested in participating in a Train-the-Trainer workshop, please contact Benjamin Slowig from the Landesinitiative FDM-NDS (benjamin.slowig@uni-oldenburg.de).

Finally, we would like to thank all participants, speakers, and multipliers who helped shape the workshop and supported the promotion of the program.
