Promoting Resilient Science—Research and Data Management in an Open Society
The way we work with research data is changing rapidly—and so is the day-to-day work of researchers. New AI-powered tools, automated analyses, and complex data formats are expanding the possibilities, but at the same time placing greater demands on skills, workflows, and infrastructure. At the same time, geopolitical uncertainties and dependencies on external service providers make it more difficult to handle data reliably and independently.
For researchers, this means that data must be organized not only according to FAIR principles but also in a way that is robust, sustainable, and legally compliant. Many changes start small—within one’s own projects, tools, and routines. Data Days therefore warmly invites you to learn more, exchange experiences, and discover ways to make daily research data management noticeably easier, while also gaining exciting insights into the state initiative.
The event is also aimed at FDM staff who wish to deepen their expertise: hands-on workshops, engaging expert presentations, community building, and networking provide opportunities to develop solutions together and learn from one another.
The evening event offers an inspiring look back at the beginnings of digital data processing and shows how far research has already come.
In-person event in Oldenburg
On November 25 and 26, 2026, the FDM-NDS State Initiative invites all members, researchers, FDM professionals, and NFDI participants to Oldenburg for the third Data Days—an event focused on information, exchange, and networking.
What can you expect?
A two-day in-person event featuring a panel discussion, a Data Walk, the award ceremony for the FAIR Data and Software Award Lower Saxony, a marketplace, hands-on workshops for networking and discussion, and much more. Participation is free of charge. The event will be held in German. A complimentary buffet and beverages will be provided.
Who should attend?
Anyone involved in research data management, FAIR principles, NFDI initiatives, and data literacy—from data stewards and researchers to staff at universities, libraries, and research institutions.
Where is it taking place?
Data Days will take place on the Haarentor Campus of Carl von Ossietzky University of Oldenburg in the Central Library (Library and Information System, BIS).

Travel information
Getting There by Public Transportation
From Oldenburg Central Station (ZOB/Hauptbahnhof Süd), you can easily reach the Haarentor Campus of the University of Oldenburg by taking bus lines 306 (toward Uni/Campus Wechloy), 310 (toward Fliegerhorst), 324 (toward BBS Wechloy), or the express bus line S35/350 (toward Westerstede). Get off at the “Schützenweg” or “Quellenweg” stop. The trip takes about 10–15 minutes, depending on the line.

The Oldenburg Computer Museum is located right next to the main train station and is just a few minutes’ walk from the central bus station (ZOB) and the train platforms.
Traveling by Car and Parking Options

Free food will be provided. Feel free to come hungry. 
Vegetarian and vegan options are, of course, available. In addition, hot beverages and soft drinks will be available free of charge throughout the event.
