The Pillar 3 project eLabFTW@FDM-NDS aims to make the electronic lab notebook eLabFTW available in the Academic Cloud for all researchers at universities and colleges across Lower Saxony. To facilitate the adoption of electronic lab notebooks (ELNs), the project offers introductory events and workshops. As part of these activities, on-site workshops are planned at all universities and colleges in Lower Saxony.
Below, we’d like to provide you with some information about how our training concept is structured and how you can bring our workshop to your institution:
What workshops do we offer?
Within the project, we plan to offer various online workshops for researchers, eLabFTW administrators, and specialized sessions on specific features and functions of eLabFTW. Additionally, on-site workshops are planned at each university and college in Lower Saxony. Depending on demand, two-day on-site workshops are also possible. All training materials will be published as Open Educational Resources (OER).
How are the on-site workshops organized?
The workshops are tailored to the specific needs of your institution and coordinated with the local FDM teams. Depending on your preferences, we can conduct the workshops independently or in collaboration with staff from your institution.
What topics are possible?
Our modular workshop concept allows us to flexibly assemble workshop content based on the needs of your institution. The following modules are currently planned:
- 001_RDM_in_Lower_Saxony
- 002_RDM_Basics
- 003_Metadata_Basics
- 004_ELN_Basics
- 005_eLabFTW_Basics
- 006_eLabFTW_Experiments_Resources_Scheduler
- 007_eLabFTW_Templates
- 008_eLabFTW_Team-Admins
- 009_eLabFTW_Sys-Admins
- 010_eLabFTW_Compounds
- 011_eLabFTW_Chemical_Structure_Editor
- 012_eLabFTW_OpenCloning
- 013_eLabFTW_Inventory
- 014_eLabFTW_API
- 015_eLabFTW_Exit_Strategy
We recommend including at least modules 001–006 in all on-site workshops.
The event can also be used to promote other local initiatives (such as alternative ELNs) or to stimulate broader discussions on relevant topics. Please let us know your ideas!
If you’d like to first assess the needs of researchers at your institution, you can use our template for a needs survey, available in our exchange forum on GitHub: https://github.com/orgs/eLabFTW-FDM-NDS/discussions/4
How can you book a workshop?
If you’re interested in hosting a workshop, please contact us at info@fdm-nds.de, providing a potential timeframe (ideally with at least four weeks’ notice), the expected number of participants, and the target audience. We’ll then discuss the details in a joint online meeting.
On behalf of eLabFTW@FDM-NDS
