Expertise in research data management alone is not enough to successfully transfer knowledge.
Data Stewards face new challenges every day—challenges that require not only advisory skills but also knowledge management, project management, marketing know-how, and a strong professional network.

But where do the boundaries lie? What can a generalist realistically achieve in a consultation? What’s the difference between stakeholders and a target audience? And how can we best exchange ideas within our own networks?

To explore these and many other questions, our colleague Dörte Wenke invited the Data Stewards of Pillar 2 at FDM-NDS to Oldenburg. During a highly productive and interactive workshop, we discussed everyday challenges and developed possible solutions. One key takeaway: a strong network of experts is essential.
